Cyberpaper : The expanding exploitation of information derived from operational databases (OLTP) in decision support applications requires the transfer of data from the on-line OLTP DBMS to the warehouse / datamart systems. The derivation of updates to the warehouse, using log based deltas on the OLTP tables presents interseting challenges for complex derivations (joins / aggregation). Another interesting challenge is to refresh the warehouse state to "as of" some earlier time.
